The I-TRACK Foundation’s Regional Director of Africa, Enam Akoetey-Eyiah, has been selected to join UNFCCC Methodological Expert Panel

The International Tracking Standard Foundation: Founder of I-REC (I-TRACK Foundation) is pleased to announce that the Regional Director, Africa, Mrs. Enam Akoetey-Eyiah, has been selected to join the UNFCCC Methodological Expert Panel (Article 6.4 Mechanism).

The UNFCCC (United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change) is the parent treaty of both the 1997 Kyoto Protocol and  the 2015 Paris Agreement with its main aim “to stabilize greenhouse gas concentrations in the atmosphere at a level that will prevent dangerous human interference with the climate system, in a time frame which allows ecosystems to adapt naturally and enables sustainable development.”

The UNFCCC Methodological Expert Panel (MEP) is a supervisory body of international experts that will contribute towards creating methodological standards, guidelines, clarifications, and other methodological matters applicable to proposed and registered Article 6.4 projects and program activities.

In this role, Enam aims to contribute her experience and perspectives from two vantage points:

  1. Share learnings as an emission reduction project developer and highlight the innovations possible through the application of digital tools to create transparent and high-integrity certificates that deliver and prove actual emission reductions.
  2. Amplify the least talked about durable carbon reduction space – an exciting frontier that holds substantial potential for soil improvement, regenerative food systems, and applying the tools that nature shows us in a reverse engineering way to reduce emissions and support communities most impacted by climate change to adapt.

Enam explains, “I believe the UNFCCC could leverage digital tools to develop a robust central registry for Art 6.4 ERs, which will deliver robust emission reductions critical for achieving the Paris target. I was keen to contribute to that development as I know from the work done at the I-TRACK Foundation that it can be established on scale and quality.

The I-TRACK Foundation is proud to have such knowledgeable and motivated people as part of the secretariat and supports Enam’s efforts in her role with the UNFCCC Methodological Expert Panel.
