**Founder and Chief Executive Officer

Fernando Giachini Lopes is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Instituto Totum. Fernando has played a pivotal role in designing and leading pioneering self-regulatory and certification programs across the energy, safety, food, finance, and greenhouse gas (GHG) verification sectors. His work has contributed significantly to strengthening market transparency, credibility, and sustainability practices in Brazil and beyond.

A recognised leader in renewable energy certification, Fernando has been instrumental in the introduction and expansion of the I-REC for electricity (I-REC(E)) in Brazil, with Instituto Totum serving as the local Issuer for more than a decade. Under his leadership, hundreds of renewable energy facilities have been registered, and millions of certificates have been issued, helping to accelerate the country’s transition toward a low-carbon economy.

Fernando is also the creator and leader of GAS-REC, Brazil’s largest voluntary certification scheme for biogas and biomethane traceability. The program has earned international recognition from the I-TRACK Foundation, leading to the appointment of Instituto Totum and Evident’s collaborative organisation, GreenGasTracking, as the Code Manager for the I-TRACK for biogas and biomethane Product Code, the I-TRACK(G) Code. Widely regarded as a thought leader in energy certification, renewable energy attributes, and environmental markets, Fernando was repeatedly named one of the 100 Most Influential People in Brazil’s Energy Sector by Full Energy magazine between 2019 and 2022.
