July 13th-14th | Virtual Conference: Renpower Egypt Investors 2021

The Renpower Egypt Investors 2021 conference was a virtual, two-day conference held on July 13th and 14th 2021, hosted by Euroconvention Global. The conference was centered around the necessary development to ensure Egypt’s renewable energy generation targets are met. The conference brought together not just investors but developers, technology providers, policymakers, and international stakeholders. Among the speakers and discussants was the I-REC Standard Secretary-General, Jared Braslawsky, to introduce the I-REC Standard Foundation and the International Attribute Tracking Standard that has been implemented in Egypt’s I-REC(E) market.

With the drive for renewable energy sources increasing, the Egyptian government is making steady increases to not just the amount of renewable energy produced, but the number of renewable sources.

“Egypt raised the share of renewable energy to 20% of the mix, which is planned to be achieved by 2022. The government intends to increase further the supply of electricity generated from renewable sources to 42% by 2035 – with wind providing 14%, solar 25%, and hydropower 2%. Energy output and consumption are expected to continue to grow fast, as much of the country still remains underserved. Off-grid technology, storage systems, and distributed power will play a key role in that process. On the other hand, there is a strong demand for the commercial and industrial (C&I) sector, opening the doors for new business opportunities. Furthermore, the prospects for Egypt to become a regional energy hub are further shaping up with several interconnections in the MENA region and towards Europe .” (Euroconvention Global)

The two-day conference was divided into 4 sessions:

  • Session 1: Driving Egypt’s green agenda – ongoing projects and next steps towards a clean energy transition
  • Session 2: Investing in power generation – new solar, wind, hydro, and thermal projects shaping up in Egypt
  • Session 3: Sectoral opportunities in transmission networks, off-grid, and energy-efficient technology
  • Session 4: The long-term financing of renewable projects in Egypt: What supportive funding schemes for the next decade
