*Since the date of this news item’s publication, the organization ‘The International REC Standard Foundation’ has changed to ‘The International Tracking Standard Foundation: Founder of I-REC (I-TRACK Foundation).’
The I-REC Standard Foundation is attending COP28 in Abu Dhabi from December 1-6. The Foundation is represented by the Executive Director, Jared Braslawsky, Director, Global Partnership and APAC, Roble P. Velasco-Rosenheim, and the Regional Director of Africa, Enam Akoetey-Eyiah.
This year’s COP event (COP28) focuses on global developments post the 2015 Paris Agreement as explained by the United Nations, “With global temperatures hitting record highs, and extreme weather events affecting people around the globe, this year’s UN climate change conference, COP28, is a pivotal opportunity to correct course and accelerate action to tackle the climate crisis. COP28 is where the world will take stock of progress on the Paris Agreement – the landmark climate treaty concluded in 2015 – and chart a course of action to dramatically reduce emissions and protect lives and livelihoods.”
During the event, the Foundation will emphasize the importance of evidence-based tracking instruments with other COP28 attendees such as leaders from governments, businesses, NGOs, and civil societies. Standardization of such tracking instruments for Electricity, Hydrogen, Carbon Removals, and Biogas are crucial for disclosure practices and for the mutual acknowledgment of direct and indirect emissions of products which is of paramount importance in the future of international trade.
