The I-TRACK Foundation is pleased to announce the accreditation of Smart Power Myanmar (SPM) as the local I-REC(E) Issuer in Myanmar. Following the successful completion of the I-TRACK Foundation’s rigorous Accreditation Process, this milestone represents a significant step forward in the development of credible renewable energy attribute tracking in the country.
As an Accredited I-REC(E) Issuer, SPM can issue I-REC(E) for eligible renewable electricity generation in Myanmar in accordance with the International Attribute Tracking Standard (Standard). This accreditation supports increased transparency, integrity, and international recognition of renewable energy generation and consumption in the country.
Established in 2017, SPM is a platform for stimulating a vibrant renewable energy ecosystem in Myanmar that benefits small and medium-sized enterprises, smallholders, and communities in critical value chains. Since launch, SPM has catalyzed 13MW in new solar development and transformed over 180,000 lives. SPM is implemented by Engaged Communities, Ltd., a Myanmar subsidiary of the US-based non-profit Pact, inc. For more than 40 years, Pact has strengthened communities through capacity building and innovative interventions for impact and sustainability.
The accreditation of SPM as an I-REC(E) Issuer is expected to support the growth of Myanmar’s renewable energy market by enabling project developers, businesses, and electricity consumers to credibly document renewable electricity generation and consumption. It also aligns Myanmar more closely with international best practices for energy attribute tracking and reporting.
