The I-TRACK Foundation has formally submitted its feedback to the European Commission’s open consultation on the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), encouraging the use of actual emissions as opposed to default emissions and supporting the recognition of contractually defined emission rights such as those defined in the PPA or underlying Energy Attribute Certificates (EACs), like I-REC(E).
This consultation represents a key step in shaping the next phase of CBAM, impacting the import of most major commodities into Europe.
Key highlights of the I-TRACK Foundation’s submission:
- Promotion of Energy Attribute Certificates (EACs): The I-TRACK Foundation advocates for using EACs, like the I-REC for electricity (I-REC(E)), as a credible way to demonstrate compliance with CBAM’s electricity-related requirements.
- CBAM-Compliant Corporate PPA Template: In collaboration with DLA Piper, the I-TRACK Foundation has introduced a template Corporate Power Purchase Agreement (CPPA) to help companies and electricity generators comply with CBAM regulations, including country-specific annexes tailored for various jurisdictions.
The I-TRACK Foundation remains committed to supporting global efforts in reducing emissions through transparent and standardized mechanisms. Use the download button to review the I-TRACK Foundation’s official response.
