I-TRACK Foundation has submitted feedback to SBTi’s survey

The International Tracking Standard Foundation (I-TRACK Foundation) has submitted its response to the Science Based Targets initiative’s (SBTi) survey on Corporate Net-Zero Standard Version 2.0 Public Consultation, offering insights into how the initiative can evolve to better support operational clarity, acknowledging current data and tool limitations, and allowing flexibility where standardized solutions are still emerging—particularly in areas like geographic boundaries and temporal granularity.

The full response is publicly available here.

Led by Roble P. Velasco-Rosenheim, Regional Director for Global Partnerships and APAC, the I-TRACK Foundation’s submission underscores two strategic points where SBTi can play a more constructive role:

  1. Policy Engagement:
The I-TRACK Foundation emphasized the critical need for SBTi to deepen collaboration with governments and public institutions. As noted in the submission, “Scaling climate ambition requires alignment between voluntary corporate action and national-level decarbonization strategies. SBTi is uniquely positioned to bridge that gap.”
  1. Balanced Accounting Approaches:
The I-TRACK Foundation advocates for a more inclusive approach that maintains space for market-based mechanisms, cautioning against SBTi’s perceived focus on location-based emissions accounting. “Even unintended biases in methodology can impact the diversity and innovation of corporate climate strategies,” the submission states. “It’s important that SBTi preserves flexibility while upholding scientific integrity.”

The I-TRACK Foundation’s submission reflects its broader mission to advance standardized, robust, and transparent systems of energy attribute tracking that enable credible and aligned climate transitions.
